Double Bass Acoustic Image UPSHOT questions phantom rattles

I got a used Upshot in yesterday. I freakin’ love it.

but … there is some sort of phantom rattle after a certain volume threshold. It’s not the cone, it’s something with the enclosure. I’ve tightened all the screws. I might be the metal screen over the speaker - does anyone have any experience with this? Hoping for an easy fix, but I’m afraid it might be a design flaw.

My other question :

It looks like the magnet is right above the floor and is pretty gunky. Should I periodically disassemble and clean this of dust and metallic particulate or not worry about it?

I think I remember the early DoubleShots having an issue with rattling speaker grills that they fixed. I wouldn't hesitate to contact AI. Their CS is legendary, and I'm sure they'll be able to answer both questions.

In case anyone else comes across this problem, the solution was simple enough: seal the grill with black silicon.

It slides right off with a little pryin’. I suspect it just gets a little loose after some time. I was thinking about using some E6000 glue instead, but thought better of it as I was afraid it’d be too strong if I ever need to pop it off to replace the cone. I then liberally (and stylistically sloppily) put a couple beads of silicon on the top of the grill, too, to reduce potential resonant frequency stuff. Quiet now (“cue the music!”).

Regarding the magnet on the bottom:
There’s nothing to clean. What I was mistaking for gunk accumulation was just felt. All good.
