Acoustic re-issue 360/361 problem

These speakers can blow like that. One instant they are fine, the next they aren’t. Debugging involves inspecting the wiring to ensure that the connections are good. Some crossovers have a light bulb that can act like a fuse. Look for that and replace if necessary. Disconnect the tweeter and test it with a low level signal such as your phone.

thanks! If I am understanding you correctly a phone or what not can drive the tweeter without external power? I bet I am dead wrong. Lol

It can enough for a test if you have a headphone output jack, as can an MP3 player, computer, etc. What you want to know is are you able to get any audio out of the tweeter or is the coil blown. Keep the volume level LOW.

If you have an ohm meter, check the resistance across the two terminals. If it is functional, you should read a low resistance such as between 4 or 6 ohms if it is an 8 ohm tweeter. Any resistance is good. As I said above, the tweeter should be disconnected from the crossover when performing this test.

You may have heard of a battery test for speakers. DO NOT do this with a tweeter. The DC voltage can damage the tweeter.

ok. So I need to touch the headphone mini plug to one of the terminals after I disconnect…. Or to both terminals?

I looked inside. Wiring is nice, tidy and well connected.

You can't do this with a piezo transducer. Some piezos wave an internal parallel resistor that you might measure, and others may just have a piezo element that will read infinite DC resistance, even if it's still good.

Also a close relative died last night in Florida and I am in the middle of a heavy trial term. I am burning out. I just sold my waterfront home and I am retiring to the mountains. I will get this horn problem fixed. I may take it to a tech in Atlanta. any suggestions as to whom?
 
Nothing inherently wrong with the high frequency driver and horn. Should be a straight ahead diagnosis and repair.

The important part is proper diagnosis, once the actual cause is determined, the repair is straight forward and not very expensive.
