Acrylic Basses for anyone??

My Grand acrylic 5 string with flame maple neck weighs in at 12 pounds. Body is the exact size and shape as my p-bass.

I saw a glass guitar when I was in Italy, they saw me looking at it and were quite quick to point out that it isn't something that can actually be played

ive got a Wesley 5 string which im currently moding. Its Acrylic, fairly cheap to buy as a 4 or 5 string. 130 - 170 quid. Walked by it in a shop window and decided to buy it and wire up some LED's. Turned out way better than expected. Will be using live for some crowd pleasing funky stuff. Or maybe just to light up the house in an emergency.

Everything Ive read about acrylic bodys has indicated that mods are rather dificult due to problems with screw holes & routing. If all the mods to be done can be done without rerouting anything and without changing screws, it might work out ok. Otherwise Id expect some real problems. 10 plus pds is heavy to me for a single neck bass compared to most everyone Ive owned to. I have played a acrylic dan armstrong, ok sound, but nothing special sound wise.

I know this is a very old thread but I try my luck: I'm looking for an acrylic precision bass body to buy, but I don't really know where can I find one.
I haven't found any websites selling just the body and I'm not really trusting the really cheap basses out there...
Can you please give me any advice where to search?

Fender's custom shop will make one. I cannot imagine it will be cheap though.

I have been foaming at the mouth for an acrylic addition to my collection. I was wondering what experience people had with those cheap Chinese knock off ones? I know their electronics suck and all, but I'm thinking of buying one for the body and then rebuilding it with a new neck and quality parts. Are the bodies good, at least?

I was thinking Dan Armstrong shortscale copy , but it seems the Chinese copies are not short scale.

I had a pair of acrylic green mockingbirds, guitar and bass, and as has been mentioned, they were absolutely heavy as you hear, but the bass sounded great!
