Action on Bass

Im new to the bass and recently bought a Ibanez SRX2EX1. Everyone that ive talked to says that its a pretty decent bass, but first thing i need to do is adjust the action and change the strings. IVe done the strings, but im not to sure about the action. Exactly what is the action and how would i want to set it up? Sorry for the noob question. Thanks alot

Nice bass.

Action is, for the most part, the height of the strings from the fretboard. You will find a lot of help in this area in the "Setup & Repair" forum. Here's a good place to start:
