Double Bass Action too high?

I've got an Englehardt ply rented from my local music store. I threw a Shadow upright bass pickup under the bridge as well.

I keep noticing the action on the bass is really high. I can't shave down the nut because it's a rental bass. Anything I can do to lower the action?

We rent a lot of instruments at Long & McQuade and people often have specific setup requests.

Why don't you take it back to the music store and discuss the setup with them? ;)

If it has adjusters on the bridge, which direction to turn them depends on which way the threaded portions of the adjusters are facing. If the threads go into the upper part of the bridge, turn the adjusters counterclockwise to lower the string height. If the the threads go into the lower legs of the bridge, turn the adjuster wheels clockwise.
