i was wondering if there was a point to buying an american deluxe jazz bass when i have a deluxe MIM jazz bass. i checked and they both have the same electronics but apart from that i dont know much about the american one. or should i just save up for a 60's jazz?

They don't have the same electronics, even when they both had 9 volt pre-amps the pre's were different! If you crank the treble or the bass knob you would hear the difference! The newer MIA DLX's have an 18 volt pre which give the bass more headroom. The MIA bass has a smaller body and a longer (22 fret) neck. The MIA bass has abalone dots while the MIM bass has clay dots. The MIA bass strings thru the body or top loads the MIM bass doesn't. The MIA bass has tension tightening tuners, comes with case, strap, cord. wrenches, polishing cloth, the MIM comes in a gig bag. The MIM dlx bass is a nice bass I own one, it doesn't hold a candle to the MIA version imho. I own a few MIA dlx jazzes in some form or another, a FMT V, a Victor Bailey, a Custom Classic Custom shop. The MIM dlx bass doesn't sound anything close to any of these basses.

So now your looking at a different sound, better color options, better resale value, a better looking bass over all. Now if that doesn't matter to you than stay with the MIM dlx bass.
