Active Options for P basses

Hey guys-- this has prolly been discussed 1 million times.... but what's some good active options for a P Bass??

I have a USA Standard that I wanna go active on.... cuz all my other axes are active, and I wanted to know what you guys think.

The Sadowsky preamp is always a winner although it's pricey by comparison. Go to bestbassgear.com and you'll see most of the other major manufacturers. Just remember to incorporate an active/passive switch (or push/pull pot) in case your battery dies at a gig or you want the passive sound.

Well, I love my passive P-bass but I also loved the sound of an early 80s American Special P bass I recently heard in Rome from a guy playing street gig (through a Mesa M-Pulso and a little 10" speaker!) ...



So...subscribed!

If I were tempted to do this (and I'm not), I might try stacking the volume and passive tone on one knob, and putting and obp-1 on the other knob. Squeezing in the batteries might take a little routing, though.

whats the dif between the obp1 and obp2?

The EQ on the OBP1 is boost only (like the Sadowsky preamp) and the OBP2 is boost/cut.

What's your pref, 2 band?

The Bartolini NtBt 2.2 a/p:

Stacked bass and treble and push/pull active/passive volume

Aguliar:

Obp2 with stacked bass/treble

EMG btc control:

stacked bass and treble.

Since I´m a P Bass Junkie...I made myself that question every time I wanted to try a different tone; but after some costly (and sometimes frustrating ) experiments, I came to the conclusion that is better to leave our beloved p-basses without modification and look for a great outboard pre-amp...this way you just burn cash in one pre-amp but you have the flexibility to make all your P´s actives at will.

By the way the Aguilar Tone Hammer is a great option.
