active/passive/mute switch

Hi Folks.
My bass has a Bartolini preamp, with active/passive switching via a p/p pot.
99% of the time I'm playing in passive, so i'd like to have a regular, passive tone control.
I thought about adding a tone pot and changing the push-pull pot for a DPDT switch in the following arrangement:
1 - mute
2 - passive, with just the passive tone
3 - active, but without the passive tone engaged

Couldn't come with the wiring to achieve that. Is that possible at all?

How would you get the three positions listed with a double throw switch? Or are you thinking of an ON-OFF-ON?

A wiring with any other switch will be fine too, I've just thought a DPDT on-on-on is the most appropriate.

I would use the on-off-on. Technically it's a DPDT, but has 3 positions, with center being off. That position would be your mute.

I am not familiar with the Bartolini preamp - I may be able to help with a wiring diagram. Usually preamp makers show an example of how to do a passive/active setup. At least I know Aguilar does.

I think that a mute switch would work much better if the signal was shorted to ground, rather than left open.

How about having an active/passive switch, and putting a seperate mute push/pull switch on your volume control?

Yep, for mute I mean shorting the tip to the ground through a resistor. So on-off-on wouldn't work.

Having 2 switches is not the best option - the volume is gonna be a dual pot (volume-tone), so I've wondered if it could be done with a one 3-position switch.

Well, you might have a problem then. Three position double throw switches (on-on-on) "generally" connect both throws to the poles when in the center position. They are usually used for pickup switching (neck-both-bridge). Your next choice may be a rotary 3 position switch.
