Active pups in bart size

I dont know the name of the size. It's common. It's what bart and nord uses for normal soap bars.

Does anyone make active pups in that size?

Can active pups be used with an active pre?

Many people use the EMG naming convention, is this what you're looking for: EMG Pickups / Soapbars / Bass / Electric Guitar Pickups, Bass Guitar Pickups, Acoustic Guitar Pickups ? You'll see a few active variants there BTW.

And yes, active pickups can work fine with many preamps, and offer preamp designers some useful options to optimize for that use case.

I'm was looking for the other size. Soap bars seem to have 2 main sizes. Emg and bart. I don't even know if they make active pups in the bart size. ( long skinny rectangle).
I'm not willing to route the bass, so if they don't make them in the size I need, so be it.

My Barts were EMG35 size, actually, which is quite common. ;) If I had to guess, you probably mean their BC size? But as you'll see, Bart does a bunch of different formats, so you'll need to actually measure your routes: Bass Soapbars - Bartolini Pickups & Electronics

Lots of pickup makers can put whatever coil format in whatever shell, for instance I know Nordstrand used to do this. Beyond that, EMGs are the only active pickups I have any direct experience with, but best of luck!

JOOC, why do you want active pickups? I use the Audere classic modules and they’re compatible with both active and passive.

I just wanna try some. No "real" reason other than I'm bored.

If I hope they do anything aound wise it would be wanting a bit brighter , more in your face present sound. Even my nord big singles sound a little dark to me but I know they aren't.

If the actives have less magnetic pull that would also be a bonus. I prefer my nords close to the strings, but if I get closer than 1/2" with the neck pup, I get wicked warble above the 12th fret.

I don't know if actives will do either of those things, but from the little I've read about actives they "could" help solve both problems.

first, there's no single 'bart size', Bart has different sizes. I know for sure, MEC makes active pickups in Bart P2 format.

second, yeah, active pickups work with many preamps, for most it's the question of right pots for volume and blend. for some it's not possible. read the manual on your preamp, the information on 'will it work with active pickups' will be there. ask the manufacturer if in doubt.

Can you post the dimensions you need (or link to a specs page for the item you're talking about)? "Bart size" is pretty vague.

Like pointed out above, pickup makers can fit to various shells. Or you can buy a smaller pickup and put it in an appropriately-sized shell.

Nordstrand calls it the Bartolini BC size. They only list 2 sizes. Bart bc and emg 35. That's where I got that from.

Seymour Duncan has Bart sized active soapbars, but it seems like only for 5/6 strings (Bart P2 size). Perhaps check with them anyway?

Also, do confirm the actual size. if it's Bart BC, that's 1.25x3.95" (+/- some %). But sometimes I think P2 is used for 4 strings too...

If you run out of options, and are willing to tinker a little bit, you could try 4 string active J pickups (EMG makes them), and see if they'd fit inside Bart BC pickup shells. J's are smaller, but the screw holes on the cover may get in the way. Or you could just mount the J's inside the big soapbar cavities for a punk look :)

But in all seriousness, I'd just try some other passive pickups. If you really want bright, I'd suggest passive split coils, and wire them in parallel internally (the two coils of each pickup should be in parallel).

I have active Duncans in my 6.
