Active to passive...

hey guys, this is my first thread but i've been crawling the forums for awhile.

I have an Ibanez SR400QM, it's a pretty bitchin SoundGear, in other words. It's got active electronics, but I'm not really huge on boosting or cutting the bass and treble.

I've been wanting to replace the pups with some higher quality jazz pups, and I'm wondering how much of a hassle it would be to convert from an active set up to a passive one. I'd rather not be worrying about the boost/cut or carrying around 9 volts all the time.

Any input on this project would be appreciated. BTW im looking for a nice, growling midrange-y tone.

what's the question? yank out everything, then wire it up like a jazz bass.

you'll have holes, both from the soapbar pickups and from the extra unused control knob, but there you go.

ok, one technical detail: the pickups won't be in the same place as they would on a jazz bass, so combined with the different neck and body, it won't really sound like a jazz bass. it might get in the ballpark, though.
