I just bought a Fender jazz bass, american deluxe and i know that it's an active bass. Is there a way that it turns into a passive one?

I dont think you can go passive... but take your battery off, plug your bass in the amp and try pull your volume knob or something to see if there is an option somewhere to go passive.

Hmm, yeah, if you take the battery out and it'll still run, then you're good to go!
On both my basses I don't have that problem, my Hohner Jack has an active/passive switch and my Kubicki has three passive and two active modes!

well, it seems that my beloved bass has nothing to do with passive basses. i took off both batteries, then i left the one and nothing at all came out from the amp speaker. i should carry some batteries with me like carrying diapers for the baby. about that link, Low D, that came in the form of a booklet with the bass... thank you guys.
. . . I have that bass.You cannot make it passive; you'll have to take it to a repairperson and do a modification to the circuit.
I have had mine for 4 months and play regularly and the batteries are still very strong. I'd suggest you buy a cheap current meter (at a hardware store, the cheapest you can find) and measure the batteries every two month or so. The 18-volt circuit can probably still work fine with 15 volts or so.
So is not like the bass will cuts off when the batteries die (although it could happen). Usually you will hear sound degradation before they run out, giving you plenty of time to change the batteries.
But I have to admit that changing the batteries on that bass is a pain in the rear: you have to unscrew the cover and then the two batteries are REALLY tight in there...
well i already have a voltage meter (if this is how is called). i dont really like modifications and the active electronics sound is awesome in comparison with the passive one...of course it depends on the bass, and i am talking about the basses i got in my hands. about the batteries, i don't know about the tightness my friend lefty, i found no difficulty in either unscrewing the covering plate or taking the batteries odd, it seems that there was an improvement or something hehe. as i said before, the best solution is buying a couple of duracells and throwing it in the space in the hardshell case.
