Adblocker warning from Talkbass?

Today I'm seeing this message where the ads usually are....

"Uh oh - it looks like you're using an AdBlocker to block ads on TalkBass. This makes us sad. Your account on TalkBass is free, but does incur costs for us. Please consider disabling your AdBlocker on TalkBass, as you can pay for your visit simply by viewing our unobtrusive ads (no sound, no video, no popups). Just click into your AdBlock menu in your toolbar and select "disable on talkbass.com". Thank you! :)"

I don't know anything about this, nor do I see "AdBlock" in my tools. So I changed my popup settings to allow Talkbass popups. With that, the above message seems to have stopped. Is this the same thing as selecting "disable on talkbass.com" from an AdBlock menu?

Aside; A couple days ago I upgraded from Windows8 to 8.1. Could that have been involved?

What browser are you using, and are you running any addons? I did update the adblock detector yesterday. The update added detection for AdMuncher and Ghostery users. Obviously you should not be seeing the adblock message since you don't have these installed and you were seeing ads previously.

Are you seeing any ads currently, along with the adblock message?

Hey Paul,

Not seeing ads or the AdBlock message today.

Aside; I first saw the Adblock message when I opened a thread titled "closed". That was yesterday, in the Basses forum.

Interestingly, with my Windows 8.1 update, I now have text editing. (didn't have it before then)

Something in your configuration must be blocking ads then... The Adblock message will likely come back after 72 hours, that's how long the temporary dismissal is configured to last.

Sorry, one last piece of info requested by the developer: Do you see the "Uh oh..." notice all the time, or occasionally?

Whatever talkbass is using I disapprove of. When I do disable all my adblockers I still get the message.

What I will NOT shut off is my tracker blocking. Trackers get into your browsing history and follow you around from page to page. I don't mind advertising but don't use a service that relies on following me around and using me for data mining.

I'll go ahead and take some more effort to figure out why the tracker blocking messes with the advertisements on this site.

What do you use? Ghostery? I agree with you completely.

I've been using disconnect for a while now. I've had been running adblock plus with it but a few months back I replaced that with ublock (on chome) which recently I've been playing with not even running that, just https everywhere and disconnect.

Doing a bit of research I see the Disconnect specifically blocks many known advertising services which are known to track users.

With all the changes in online advertising revenue and contracts over the past couple of years I do sympathize with websites like talkbass's desire to keep running. But I VERY SERIOUSLY get creeped out when i see advertising following me from site to site. That's as bad as the flashy flashy advertising but in a different way.

So does Disconnect actually remove the banners from TalkBass for you?

yes it does kill the banners.

Thanks. yeah, that's probably why the Adblock detector is firing for you. You can dismiss the notice for 72 hours at a time, or upgrade to supporting membership.

All we run are Google Adsense ads (plus our own direct-sold ads).

I'm curious - have you considered clicking that little "ad choices" link on the ads? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdChoices

I saw your comment about using Google AdSense. Could "Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on" be the problem? I don't see any way to adjust it at all. I use Windows 7 and usually I.E. though sometimes Firefox.
