Add another J pickup to a PJ bass?

I have a Yamaha BB300 (that was given to me in rough shape) that I added a Jazz pickup in the bridge position and a BadAss II bridge. I love the sound and get compliments on its tone. I was thinking about putting another Jazz pickup close to the neck in between the P pup and the neck and maybe putting in a strat-style selector switch. Anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks!

Sounds cool! Check out the Stuu Hamm Urge II bass. I'm not sure if he has a selector switch, but he definitely has that pickup configuration.

Be careful- that would definitely impede slapping if you're into that sort of thing.

I actually did this many, many years ago and didn't feel like I gained much. The Jazz PU didn't have that big honking sound like an EB-O....now if you put a big humbucker in there.......

How about locating the poles where the 24th frret would be ? I had another TB'er (Passinwind) make that suggestion for another project a while back and it made some sense to me.

Been contemplating that setup as well diff bass - Squire Mod Jazz Fretless. Have some USA Jazz and P pu's in a drawer. Was going to double up on the bridge with 2 bridge J's and throw a P up in the neck J position. Have some doulbe J's in Kramer basses and love it. Push/pull vols for ser/par. lmk how yours works,
