Addictions you quit.

I'm blessed to be alive.

8 months ago I was hospitalized with alcohol related liver and kidney failure. I had gone to a detox centre, and they sent me to the hospital. I was dying of all things, dehydration, related to drinking. A doctor told me that if I had waited 12 more hours to go to the hospital, they would have been unable to save me.

I got into a long term treatment centre, and now am sober, reasonably healthy, but may be looking at a liver transplant in the next few years.

I am 36 years old.

I've been a bar gigging musician for most of my life, and lived the rockstar lifestyle to the fullest.

Now I'm grateful to have a life, instead of a lifestyle.

Dude, that's scary... You're the same age as me.

So you quit heroin, all by yourself? Only 2% of the addicts manages to do that..

Also, what was hardest, to quit smoking or heroin? :)

The Heroin was a very difficult and painful habit to quit, and no I did not do it by my self, I had some really good friends help me through it as was my habit was getting much too expensive to keep going. I have all but forgotten the habit. 2% really? I am fortunate to have beaten those odds. However the smoking, that was the hardest and still is an issue I deal with everyday. I went through just about everything to stop. Quit about 6-7 different times. Finally my youngest daughter told me one day that I smelled of smoke and that was it, I justed stopped. I think about smoking EVERYDAY!! I never think about the drugs. I want to smoke SO bad, but I just don't anymore. There is too much in this world to kill you much less introducing it into your body yourself. I just hope that I havent destroyed it beyond repair!! I hope this helps.

Really whats your ex vice? I mean anything... Smoking, drugs, alcohol, even things nothing like that, video game's, going out, shopping. There's a point when you do something so much it hurts you and those around you, so what was yours?

For me, it was playing World of Warcraft... yeah, sounds lame right? well, i was in one of the hardcore raiding guilds, we were constantly competing to be one of the best, most recognized guilds on the server, that meant raiding 6 hours a night, Farming 2-3 hours a day and thats an average day, then we'd be on all day before / after that... Most of us logged off to sleep. I quit my job to play wow, i quit driving to save gas money to pay wow, disconnected my cell phone, started selling things to make paymnents on stuff. but i didnt even have it that bad.

A buddy of mine divorced his wife to play more, sold his car / house / possessions to keep funding his desire to play about 18+ hours a day.

Three weeks ago on the Tyra banks show, a man refused to drive his wife to the emergency room, her water broke, but... he was raiding. And we know a game > RL (Real life) right? yeah.

About a year ago now, a Chinese kid played for four days straight, he never left the room, didnt go out to eat, or drink. Was using the corner as a "Rest room" then he left a note that said "I want to live with the blizzard gods" (Blizzard is the creator of the game, WoW) so then he jumped out a window.

And now i've quit it for the last few months. You'd be surprised how hard it is to quit that game...

So tell me your story.

Smoking about 15 years ago, layed off the other kinda smoke about 10 years before that. I almost started to let Beer drinking become a problem but recognised that and stopped bar hopping about 4 years ago, I still drink a couple beers a week but no longer crave it.

I have done every form of speed known to man. Preludin enduret 25, 50 and 75 miligram. Desoxyn 5, 10, 15 milligram. Black mollies. Pharmicutical liquid amphetamine. California super lab ICE. Ether base meth.

2 years ago I sliped and did some. While I was doing it, The bathtub filled up with raw sewage, and there were gun shots right outside my window.

Screw that demon dust :(

I'm not religious... but GOD bless you all. Jeeez.

My vice was Star Wars Galaxies. About 2 1/2 years of it for at least 20 hours a week... sometimes 30-40. It just makes me sick thinking about how good at bass I would be if I spent all that time playing. Well, I'm mostly done with that now... it's been 3 months.

I'm not much into drinking booze, I smoke 2-3 cigs a day and puff the bong maybe once a week. I recently quit the sugar soda for diet and I hope to drink even less on it as time goes on... but it's so damned tasty! Oh, and I cannot start the morning without a cup or 6 of coffee.

Yes it did. :)

I have come to the conclusion that the difficulties in quit using different drugs are completely individual, some people barely have any problems at all quit smoking and it was interesting to see someone who quit the, i suppose, most addictive drug of them all and then have trouble quit smoking.
