I'm interested in adding a J pickup to my Precision and going with a stack knob setup so I can use regular pickguards. I won't be doing this work myself. I'm looking for someone to do the routing and install.

1. Which J pickup would be a good match for my Fralin?

2. What specific parts will I need to buy? Obviously the J pickup, but which stack knob volume control? Any other components?

3. Can anyone recommend a luthier they trust? I've asked at my local Fender dealer, but they didn't know anyone that could do the router work. I'm located in central NJ but I'm fine with shipping the body if I have to.

Greetings from the North,

Before you start routing may I suggest the John East P-Retro. It's a straight drop in with no routing,stacked knobs and you won't have to change your pick guard. Sound wise it will prolly get you were you want to go without losing the P vibe and no added hum.

Very interesting. What's funny is years ago I had a Jazz with a J-retro installed. I never considered this for a Precision. Do you own one? Do you think this pre would provide as much tonal variation/flexibility as adding a J pickup?
