Adding an extra cab to a combo

So I play pretty small gigs and am only a teenager so I use my Roland Cube 100 Bass 1x12 combo for pretty much everything. But lately I have been wanting to add another 1x12 cab to boost my sound. I don't have very much cash on hand so I am interested in the Avatar SB112.

I have a couple of questions for who ever can answer them:

1. How is the SB112?

2. I don't know a whole lot about amps or impedance, but Avatar gives me the option of choosing either 4 or 8 ohms for the cab. What would the difference be and what factors should I consider in this decision?

3. I'm tempted to just get the carpet coating, but is the Tolex or Line-X coating really worth the money?

4. Is the NEO magnet worth the money?

5. Finally, I am making the right choice getting to 12 inch to match my combo speaker or should I just get the 2x10?

The Roland combo you have can only be used with an 8 ohm extension cab - if you use a 4 ohm cab you risk destroying the amplifier section of your Roland combo.

If you get an SB112, I would upend it (slot port at the bottom) and put the combo on top to make a sweet narrow stack.

If you are happy with the weight of the ceramic magnet version of the SB112, I would save some money and get that.
It seems the NEO version is only about 7lbs lighter.

Doubling driver displacement (similar to adding another 12" speaker in your case) offers the same increase in volume as quadrupling your power output plus the combo speaker will be nearer your ears so you'll hear it much better.

You will also have a nice 112 cab to use if you want to upgrade the rig in future maybe with another SB112 and seperate amp head with more power.

Another question:
Do you have experience with buying gear on craigslist?
I say this because I see that someone in my area is selling an avatar 112 and this might be my only chance to try out the cab before purchasing it.
Should I avoid craigslist all together and just assume it will work fine with my amp?

I'm not in the US so I don't use Craigslist.

If they are in your area, can you take along your combo and check it out before buying...?
It may be a better deal than buying new if it's in good working order.

You're better off trading up the whole rig. Adding a non matched cab is a lottery if buying untested.

Gigs with drums and guitars generally need more than 100w, specially when kids are involved. There's a near new crown power amp in the classifieds, 200 bucks shipped, add 2x12 and 100 dollar sansamp preamp pedal. That would have you set for quite large gigs.

Craigslist can yield very good deals on bass rigs of the 80's and 90's.
