adding end pin stand to a typical ABG (ala Takamine TB10)

Just curious if there's hardware or a an add on for adding an end pin stand to a typical acoustic bass guitar. The inspiration is the Takamine TB10 electric upright.

There is a double bass player I have seen who added a standard double bass end pin to an acoustic. Made it the right height to play sitting down as part of a small folk band I think.

i'd be nervous about excessive sideways force on a little endblock not designed for it.

It makes me nervous too. I see enough cracked end blocks on instruments that were designed to have an end pin to know that you will need something much more substantial than a typical ABG's end block to take the lateral forces the end pin. Especially when it extends as far as shown in the pic - that's a lot of leverage!

There should be a way, or another stand, for upright positioning. If not.. maybe I'll design one.

There has to be a way to implement something in-between/hybrid of the NS electric upright design with the free standing, walk-up acoustic guitar designs.

My suggestion is to make some kind of a portable stand, like a tripod, with a short rounded socket on the top. Then attach a short ball stub on the heel of the bass. Like a little trailer hitch ball. You walk on stage carrying the bass by the neck, rest the ball in the socket, and blast away. You can swivel and tilt as you play, but the main weight of the bass is on the tripod.

we can pretend all we want, but a little 34" scale bass guitar is not an upright and there's no real point in playing it that way. as far as i'm concerned, that takamine is nothing but F-holes and a long endpin writing a check that its scale length can't cash...

(that said, bruce's approach would make sense, a stand of some sort with the short endpin resting right on it.)

Hey TL. There are no rules. I find playing more vertical to be extremely comfortable and most bassists do as well. We didnt start on a sixer. Remove the strap nut, drill screw hole on each side, superglue a block to inside. Add screws to thethe holes n aT nut in strap nut hole. Then mount whatever set up u want.

the early fender basses did have that strap button on the back of the peghead...

Im itching to try a Barker Bass, but its a vertical j. I started on a poor baby ampeg. Plenty of inexpensive used eubs out there. With the setup i described a tripod that was mentioned would easily work. Better resonance too since it wont be up against u. No right or wrong, just find what u are comfortable with

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] I`m thinking of doing the same thing to my Hohner AB-40 due to a physical condition in my left hand. A year or two ago I removed the end pin & installed the pickup shown above at that location.

I had to drill through about a 3/4" bracing through which the PU passes. Now my plan is to make my extension based on an input cable head. I have no worry that it will be strong enough passing through that heavy brace. I will likely use a tripod leg or mono pod to have the ability to collapse it to a length that will fit into the neck portion of my hard shell case.
