ADGCF tuning, DR Lo-Rider o Sadowsky Blacks?

What I think is that your expectations are unreasonable. You're bumping up against the limitations of the laws of physics...but you don't seem to understand them well enough to even realize that... :rolleyes:

You insist upon using strings in a gauge that were designed for standard tuning...then you're disappointed when they don't work well for drop tuning.

You don't care to try the DDTs - which were designed to use for drop tuning - because the reviews didn't impress you.

And you don't care to compensate for loss of tension by transitioning to a heavier gauge of strings - because you don't want to make any modifications to or replacements of your nut.

Unless you're prepared to compromise somewhere (let's just call it a concession to reality), I'd say you're pretty much screwed. :eyebrow:

Maybe they got a plethora of emails with the Christmas holiday and it slipped through the cracks? Other than one time when the email server went down, I've not heard of any email issues.

Do you have one of those .vcf attachments for an email signature? Attachments and crazy html can often times trigger spam filters. I'd recommend sending another plain text email with something like "String Question - 2 Weeks and No Response?" as the subject line, and then ask your question again. It should help to get their attention.

Thanks for the info. No, I don't have any attachments and use a standard GMail account but like you said, maybe they just got hammered with messages. I will try again and thanks for the suggestions.

In the meantime, I have a set of D'Addario strings with the .145 B so once my customized nut arrives, I will install that and can see how the tension is when I tune down a whole step.

Lunatic_Pandora, like MysticMichael said, you are going to need to compromise somewhere if you want to get some good results and not have floppy strings. If you are not willing to make any modifications to the nut, your only other option would be to try the DDT strings from DR I would think. I was not able to try those out though since they are not tapered and I have not had any luck with strings above a .130 fitting in the bridge of my Spector.

CKS is a 3 man team and they multitask like crazy. I guess there may be a backlog of emails they are working through. Also, 2 of them are luthiers and NAMM approaches. They have had on/off trouble with emails getting through to them in the past but i believe that was sorted way back. They are top dudes so i guess they're doing their best. Perhaps resend your email?

You guys must have heavy hands or something...I've tuned a ADGCF for a couple of years, and have had no tension or floppiness problems. I have super low action as well. I have used DR Lo-Riders .125 gauge on the low string. I'm currently using Hi-Beams on my 6, same gauge low string, and it's incredible! I'm being blown away by this bass and how consistent, tight, and authoritative it's "B-string" is. I became a 34-inch scale believer with this bass. There's no compression or eq on the bass. I have the tone knob all the way down because I like the rounder tone for this track.
