Black '65 Jazz Bass Project

Hi guys,

I'm thinking to have my Jazz painted in black/matching headstock with white pickguard like these ones attached:

I have 2 questions:

1 - Do i choose nitro or poly finish?
I never had a nitro bass before, so i not sure if i will like the dings coming up.
It would help A LOT if you guys could post yours black n white basses with nitro and poly to help me decide.

2 - If i go with nitro, it's possible to apply coat OVER the waterslide?
All the CS i see uses nitro have the waterslide with "no protection", the edges showing up and i really don't like the look of that.

Thanks!

1. Nitro for me over poly any day.
2. Yes.

The CS basses are done that way to be historically accurate.

What year is the bass you're looking to have refinished.
What is the bass pictured on the right? bound & dot neck (early '65) yet the body has felt mute mounting holes w/VVT control plate ~ '62?
