Adjusting intonation

Ok, so I bought a used Fender 5 string jazz bass. Last night I put in new strings and started to adjust the intonation on the 12th fret "b" string. So it came up sharp and I started to adjust the screw in the back. Everytime I adjusted it the open "B" string went flat. So I adjusted that but the 12th fret "b" string was sharp again. I keeped going back and forth and still couldn't get anywhere near the ball park. :crying:

Anyone got any tips?
