Adobe Audition 2.0 Recording Problem

Hello all!

I have both Creative SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit External (USB) and Adobe Audition 2.0 installed on my laptop.

I can record my bass just fine going directly into the SoundBlaster external sound card.

However, I'm having some problems recording my bass with Adobe Audition 2.0. I've set the soundcard properties to be configured with the ASIO drivers of SoundBlaster. When I record into Audition, it plays back just fine. I can layer several tracks (other bass lines, drum machines, etc.) into Audition. This was the main reason I bought Audition 2.0 - to record and layer individual tracks and save it as one composition.

In Audition, when I try to "mix down" the file from a huge .wav file into a manageable .mp3 file by selecting File > Export > Audio Mix Down , the final mixed down MP3 plays back a full semitone lower than recorded. I have tried doing this with just 1 bass track or several layered together. Both have the same problem. I'm tearing my hair out trying to fix this!!

It's so strange that SoundBlaster can record my bass just fine and mix it down to an MP3 just fine. Yet Audition can play back what I've recorded, but mixes it down to an MP3 with the pitch of the recording a full semi-tone lower. Does anyone have any suggestions what might be the problem?

Wow....that is really wierd.
Um......you could use the stretch effect to raise it back up a semi tone......or tune down live, lol.

It sounds like a sample rate problem. I'd wager that their MP3 encoder is expecting 44.1kHz but you're recording at 48kHz.

Dave, you hit the nail right on the head!! It was the sample rate that was causing the problem. I had to change the sample rate of the session to match the sample rate of the audio hardware setup. After some fiddling, I got it. Thanks for putting up with a computer recording newbie! I really appreciate your help with this.

Glad that worked for you. I've run into a similar problem where my Sonar software and MOTU hardware disagree as to what the correct sample rate should be (restarting Sonar fixes it). Often times, I hear my recordings at half speed.

I highly recommend the LAME mp3 encoder:

I've been using it for years. I'd bet that it is superior to the one in Audition.
