Double Bass Adolf Misek Concerto and String Quintet

Hi all.

Apparently, Adolf Misek wrote a string quintet and a concerto. I can’t find any trace of either piece. Anybody know of a recording, or score to either?

I have not heard of a concerto by him. He only wrote 6 solo bass pieces as far as myself and the internet know - 3 sonatas, Legenda, Concert Polonaise, and Capriccio.

This article mentions a Concerto in C. Maybe it’s bogus. I’m curious though.

Yes, this piece should exist in the Mozarteum Library - Malarich collection, under the Mal 1072 (519) call number - note "handschriftlich" (handwritten). As on the picture above, the title is "Koncert C Dur pro kontrabas s doporovodem klaviru" which is in Czech (Concerto for double bass with piano accompaniment). Now, why would Malarich put a Czech title on the Austrian Doblinger edition is a curiosity. Also, if you look Misek's biogrpahy you may note that he moved out of Vienna to Prague after 1918, and remained there till he died in 1955. Thus likely all of his estate (if survived) may still be there - including this intriguing concerto. Malarich may have just copied this concerto for some future edition out of certain yet unknown source. Otherwise, I did check several comprehensive world catalogs for any trace of this edition, and found none. Which leads me to believe that the photo of the back page from above is just an advertisement for an edition that never materialized, yet remained as an unfinished project now in Mozarteum Collection.

Wow! That’s some incredible sleuthing. Thanks so much. It turns out the quintet isn’t super rare. People have helped me find copies in some libraries, but I’ll bet that concerto is really special.
