Hi, what kind of budget are you working with? What kind of music will you be playing, and just to clarify, will you be using the guitar amp for guitar, or for bass as some people have been known to do? I know it's a stupid question, just making sure.

For what it's worth, the Egnater Renegade is an awesome amp. It's got tube blending so you can get both British and American character, voltage switching as you mentioned, it comes with a convenient foot switch, and it will socket almost any type of tube you'd like with no modification. It is also set up so that you can retube and bias it yourself, with all the bias specs and instructions in the manual. It sounds really good; the clean channel is beautiful and the distortion channel is classic and sounds like a hot-rodded Marshall (those that I've heard anyway.) Although it lends itself more to classic rock and blues type stuff, it is very versatile and will handle modern styles with no problem. It has power scaling (from 65 watts to 18) and impedance selection as well, and even though it is lower wattage than the Carvin, it is very loud.

Of course, the Carvin looks neat too, and it's made in the U.S. whereas the Egnater is made in China, I believe. It costs a little bit less as well.

If you're really looking for versatility, the Peavey Vypyr head offers pretty much every sound you could need and sounds really good, although it can be a bit complicated to use. However, it is much cheaper than the others, and it offers slightly more power. They are indestructible too; I saw someone accidentally drop one down a flight of stairs once, and it didn't even tear the tolex.

Good luck!
