advice for those seeking first gig (cover list?)

been lurking around here and the bass for awhile. I've been playing with other musicians trying to get a band going for years but it hasn't worked out for an increasing number of reasons.

I've started to think that the only way to find an answer is to improve on bass, and learn more songs and different styles so that i'm up to chop when i find a real opportunity.

I'm sure i could request some cover set lists and some of the pros up in here could give me some suggestions on intermediate songs that are covered frequently? i can play just about anything, but i'm looking for some easy stuff that doesn't take a month for me to get down

I would say yes to most, I certainly have done all of these, except Cat Scratch Fever, which I'm going to add to our set now thanks.
