Advice on building a '50 Precision Replica please

Thanks also to Khutch for the Sting recommendation: I also thought of doing this... to save a lot of time, it would be better to slap pick ups in a second hand Sting bass, but I totally agree with 2meterbassman: The logo on the 12th fret inlays spoil it (I had no idea about the non-period extra rout under the pick guard).

The Sting inlay can probably be dealt with. The pickguard simply isn't a problem. If you want your bass to look like a 50's Precision then it needs to have that pickguard. The modern TB obsession with pickguard-less basses doesn't apply if you are trying to replicate the 50's Precision. The Sting bass isn't particularly cheap but it is 99% what you want. I was born in the 50's and I would like to get a replica Precision some day myself. Either the Sting or the Squier CV bass would do it for me because I am only looking for the overall look, not a museum quality replica. I'd even be willing to live with the CV's modern bridge, it would intonate better after all (although I am sure the two saddle design is adequate as well as more authentic).
