Advice on Cab with GK 700RB-II

Hello!

I recently picked up a GK Neo 112-II to pair with my 700RB, but I don't think it will end well.

I'm a heavy-handed player; I like the strings bouncing off the frets and fretboard most of the time. I've searched the forum to see what people use for amp settings and compared them to what I use:

Volume @ 10:30
4/5 String Voicing: 4 String
Contour/Presence @ Flat
Treble @ 11:00
Mids,Bass @ 12:00
Boost @ 1:30
Tweeter turned down all the way

I can't get much past 9:00 on the Woofer/Main without the speaker losing the battle. Others are saying they use the 112 and get to 3:00... I'm guessing they have awesome technique and a very light touch.

While I could get another 112, that would put me at 4 Ohms and then I'm out of expandability.

I'm currently thinking of the GK Neo 212-II or the Avatar B212. I do like the sound I get from the 112, so I would think the Neo 212 would help split the harder attacks across the speakers. As a comparison, I hooked up an 8 Ohm Behringer 2x10" and was able to get more than enough volume for a common practice/gig level.

The only reason I mention the Avatar is that it's in the same price ballpark and they make mention of the increased XMAX of the speakers, although I'm not sure if that is for both the Ceramic and Neo versions. Also, I don't even use the tweeter so the GK HMS isn't a deal breaker.

Any other string mashers go through this search? Lighter would be great, but at this point I'd rather make sure I don't melt speaker coils.

I have the gk 4x10 neo paired with a 700rb ii and it does very well at the approximate settings above

I have a Hartke 410XL that also does very well at the settings you described. I run everything at noon except the contour, which is rolled off. It gets really loud but starts to struggle with the master around 11, so I'm planning on adding another cab very soon

I run GK Neo 212s -- one or two depending on the venue. Sounds great. Tight, somewhat hi-if, with grind. With two, I'm as loud as I need to be.

Used to have a Neo 410, but the low end was too much for my liking, as was the weight. One point to note: The 410s are noticible louder than the 212s, so if a big bottom and loud are what you need, give the 410 a try.

There are a few guys here who use the 212x112 gk set up. I'm sure they will be along shortly. I personally like the gk212. It should kill with your head.

I'm a heavy handed player as well playing in a loud 3 piece rock band and I run the 700rb-ii into an 8 ohm avatar b212 neo for some smaller gigs. It barely gets the job done...I can turn the woofer up to maybe halfway with the input and boost levels set at noon and flat eq before I hear the speakers start to give. Those gk amps just have massive power on tap!!My ampeg 410hlf fares much better in terms of clean low end and overall volume. Just IMO/ime.

I had that set up for a while with a 1001RBII head and it was great. The ultimate rig for flexibility. Both cabs for bigger gigs, just the 212 for medium sized gigs and just the 112 for small gigs/practice. I also had an MB200 head as a backup which I sometimes used with the 112 when I didn't feel like taking out the RB.
I ended up selling everything but the 112 and then got a second 112 which I power with a Little Mark III. I just prefer the portability of the 112 cabinets but the 212 Neo is a great cab too.
