advice on lighting gear, please

We've been doing pretty well with gigging for the last eight months or so, playing local clubs. We pieced together a workable PA from stuff that all four of us already owned, and did the same for a simple lighting setup. The (now former) guitarist bought a couple old trees from another band with some PAR cans, and I bought a couple LED light bars for washing the back wall.

Anyhow, the guitarist had words with the singer after a gig a few weeks ago and pulled a rage quit. I'm happy to report that the guy we tapped to fill in worked out fine and is interested in the gig, so we've filled that chair.

But we no longer have the trees with PAR cans, and the two light bars aren't gonna be enough by themselves. Time to go shopping... I figure we should get LEDs, because of the advantages.

I'd appreciate your suggestions as to types of lighting instruments, makes, models, sources, etc. Thanks in advance!

It sure IS.
Who provides all of the lighting and sound reinforcement{F.O.H.} where YOU are?
If you rely on the venue, then either you are playing some extremely nice venues,
OR you are settling for a pig in a poke.

If we play small venues, the venue provides main mic's + vocal amp (is that the right name?) + speakers and we just play through our amps.
"Bigger" venues or a decent youthhouse provide a good PA most of the time.

Never had to worry about the lighting, but I don't think that's very important in small clubs/bars.

Well therein lies the cultural gap.
Over here it's ALL about production.
You know SHOW business baby.

If the competition does it, YOU better do it
