Advice on old G&L fretless Bass

Long time lurker (11years), first-time poster. I acquired a G&L L2000 Series E ('81?) fretless, serial# B005868 w/OHSC, bundled in a gear purchase of a '64 Blonde Bassman head. I'm a guitarist/studio owner and have no idea about the instrument. I have 42 guitars and would tend to believe this would be better off with someone who could appreciate it. What is a fair value? Apologies if this is not an appropriate question in this forum.

You have to be a supporting member and go through the classifieds if you're asking that question to sell, sorry. But that is a sweet looking bass for sure, there are lots of folks here who would be interested.

As a working musician for over 40 years, I would like to sell this at a fair price to finance another gear purchase. (wife's orders);)

That's a sweet bass! As @bholder pointed out, you'll need to determine the fair price yourself as the rules for posting things for sale on the Bass Guitar side state you must list a price. I have no doubt it won't last long!

I did do a bunch of price research but haven't found any comparable instruments. As a guitarist, I can quickly assess the value of a guitar, but lack the insight on the nuance of the bass market as to what is a desirable year and feature set, eg: fretless. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, that does give some perspective. I wonder if being fretless is a plus or minus in the market. Despite being a professional musician for 40+ years, I do feel like a bit of an interloper here, so I really appreciate all the responses.

Think of a fretless bass as a unique instrument to the traditional fretted bass. It's not that a fretless is generally worth more or less than a fretted, it's that there is a smaller field of potential buyers for a fretless bass than its fretted counterpart. With that said, I believe that a fretless is generally worth the same coin as its fretted twin, but the smaller population of buyers may cause the bass to take longer to sell.

Fretless will limit some of the field of buyers, but there is a substantial slice of bass playing pop interested or playing fretless.

I have a G&L 2000 as well, bought it with Black Moses fretless neck that I swapped out for used fretted & sold the fretless locally. Many roads to happiness.

I hate to price stuff, I figure that is the seller's duty.

Put a price on it and PM me.

I don't do offers, if I like your price, I pay. Never liked someone saying "this is my best price" and then giving a lower one after I bowed out.

Its me, not you, just the way i do it.

Wish you luck, don't see many from this era in fretless.
