Advice on possible Bass trade

I play 99% of the time sitting down, I am not in a band. It's just not a good sitting down Bass IMO if you have it on one leg the 1st fret is a mile away and if you have it on the other leg than the higher frets are too far away. Its just not a comfortable sit down Bass like a Fender is.

I strongly urge you to become a supporting member on this forum if you are interested in getting opinions on values, or just working trades (or sales) in general. You'll get a lot more out of the forum with the supporting membership - especially if you start wanting to buy and sell gear.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet with that P bass.

That's what I was going to say.
I actually don't mind the finish. A little bit of sanding and some clear coat and it'd probably look good. If you're really still keen on the idea go and meet the guy somewhere in the middle. He's probably keen to get your 'Bird. Just be prepared to walk away if the neck isn't straight and the action isn't acceptable.

If you really want something quick to play seated get yourself a Squier Jag short scale for a while. Should only cost $150 shipped to you over there and they are very comfortable to play on a lounge. You can then take your time selling your bass and buying a P bass. You might not bother after playing the Jag.

I second this opinion. Don't get me wrong, it might be 100 % original but if you've got doubts about it maybe you should wait for another one to come up. But if you want to take the chance, do the trip and go play it yourself to make up your mind, if you think it's worth it !

IMO the poor finish reduces the basses value by a couple hundred dollars in a cash sale scenario, and the P bass owner would need to throw in about $200 to get that T-bird in a trade. Another suggestion, list your T-bird and pick up a new Squier VM or CV or used MIM Fender for around $300.


I have personally owned many Fender basses since starting in the early 70's. My first bass was/is a 1974 Fretless Precision. The present offerings of Squier basses is outstanding for their price, I own a 2012 VM Jazz and it gets on stage with me very often. Great bass. Many TB members concur that these are worthy of any living room or stage.

In fact, there is only one bass that I own that cost less than $300 and got to the stage often. My Franken P made with a $100 Mighty Mite neck, Squier P bass body, and a bag of parts from ebay. Finished it for just under $200 total and plays excellently. Just another seed for thought as a decent Franken Fender P can be made on the cheap...

I agree on the Squier Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified basses. I have the CV Jazz...quarter-sawn neck, nice fret work, incredible tone. I'm using it so often than my Fender Jazz is collecting dust.
I'd definitely trade for that Thunderbird if I had a P bass, though...it would look good sitting between these.

Don't think of it that way. Your bird is worth more in its current state than that MIJ in its current state. If you make that trade you will come out behind.

Maybe I'm wrong but the knobs are not at the right place and the bridge really doesn't look like a typical Fender bridge. I wouldn't trade a t-bird for that. That being said.... Contrary to what most people seem to think of the aesthetics, I think it look pretty freaking cool, but that's just me and I still wouldn't trade a t-bird for it. :)
