AERO PICKUPS - Religious Tone Experience

Very much looking forward to hearing it! Thoughts so far???

I would like to use the wonderful movie Young Frankenstein to illustrate my thoughts so far on having my bass upgraded with an Aero Pickup.

First I was like

Then it was like

My drummer was like

I looked at my wife and said

Now when I see my bass sitting there I see

And I say

And it makes me want to play it like this

And I imagine most people cannot tell the difference and this is how I look and sound to everyone

The tone is noticeably different to my ears. It feels full and so much closer to what I have been shooting for as what I think my personal bass tone should be. Thick and rich and articulate. I honestly have yet to play with any compression or any effects what so ever on it. I cannot get past the natural sound. So lush.

It is very much like finally finding the right microphone for a vocalist. Sure, they all work and capture the vocals, but some just work better and make your voice sound so much richer and natural. You just know it when you hear it. These are the pickups that fit this bass perfectly.

I imagine an Aero pickup would fit most basses perfectly as they are all custom made if you gave Larry a call.

Been talking with the Dutch dealer about some Aero's. As I'm looking for a warm, vintage tone on my US Fender jazz V, he advised the type 3's. Most of what I read here is about the type 1's. Anyone any thoughts on the type 3?

Sorry for the delay, I wish I had some info on the Type 3's. Since you're out of the country I'd definitely suggest sending Larry an email regarding the tone you're looking for and he can direct you - let us know how it goes!

Just played a festival and gave the Aero Type-1 loaded Aluminum Neck Jazz bass it's first run through my full rig (Verellen Meatsmoke 300 + 810) and it was glorious. From the first note it shook the place - really, really open and full lows, punchy mids and pleasant but aggressive high-end "almost" clipping crunch and it sounded even better hitting the Darkglass Alpha/Omega Ultra dirt channel and EAE Longsword.

I had a several bass playing friends ask me after our set what kind of pre was in the bass because it was so loud and present in the mix - definitely the best "tone day" I've had in a live setting.

So, I wrote an e-mail to Larry and got a very quick and extensive reply. He describes the tone as subtle with some distortion, especially in the low notes. Together with what the dealer in my country describes, this might just be what I'm looking for.
I plan to have them installed later this week. I'll let you guys know my first thoughts when I have played some!

Well put. And not to derail this thread but, damn...I LOVE that movie. One of the most consistently funny films ever.

I had the type 3's installed in my Fender MIA Jazzbass fiver yesterday. Haven't had the opportunity to play extensively but my first impressions are very good. The pups seem to have a very high output, the tone is warm and full bodied without getting muddy with a slight edge to the lower frequencies (I might call it a vintage tubey tone but I've never played through a full tube amp). The frequency range seems to be broader than the stock pups and the sound coming from the B string is HUGE. All in all, I think it's the tone I was looking for.
So, very satisfied with these puppies!

PS Maybe its time for an Aero users club?
