Aerodyne / Geddy lee / Standard Jazz

Me again!

I've seen these three basses on the Web, and am in love with the Aerodyne bass. Its lush.

I've only played a standard Jazz, and found it pretty much what i'm looking for, the neck could be as thin as an ibanez, but apart from that, I like it.

Since i've currently got an active bass, I like the fact that I can have a little fiddle, and create millions of sounds.

So, whats the story with the areodyne. Is it any good?
Anyone got one?

I've had both the Aerodyne and Geddy. The Aroedyne felt like crap to me, but the Geddy felt nice, until I got tired of the ultra skinny neck. An American Standard Jazz would be my choice of the 3.

Me too - that's why I got a geddy in the first place - tiny neck for tiny hands, but BIG sound!

I have a Geddy Lee and small hands.

The neck is perfect for small hands, thin and fast.
And the sound... Great ,specially if you play it hard !!!!

My hands are also fairly small, but if you play your bass for several hours, the Geddy neck becomes a hand cramper, to me. I like a skinny neck too, just not that skinny.

I also like a thin neck, but found the Geddy neck too thin. Also, remember the Aerodyne is a P/J and will sound VERY different than the Geddy Jazz, unless you are importing a J/J model from Japan. I like the Aerodyne, but the American Std is worth the extra loot if you can swing it financially IMO.

Also, you might consider the MIM Classic 70's Jazz. I like it better than the Aerodyne and the Geddy Jazz. The neck width is the same, but its a little fatter from front to back and I really like the feel of it. Substantial, but still thin enough to be very comfy. They are very reasonably priced and all the ones I've played felt and sounded great. Plus, the 3TSB with black pickguard is gorgeous!

I have the Aerodyne (Black w/ Cream Binding) and just got my hands on St Am Jazz and it does sound better and feels better. You'll get significant hum from the Single Coil Jazz pickup, but the neck is nice. My only major gripe was that it was too light...made of basswood. Other than that it was a solid bass. I'd definitely go the used route on either the Aerodyne or Geddy seeing as how outrageous the new prices seem to be.

If you're buying used, your best bet may be the Geddy in terms of quality for the price. But now that the Geddy is only slightly cheaper than a new '08 Standard, I'd say spend the extra chunk of change to get the graphite reinforced neck, Hipshot tuners, wider range of color/neck choices, and ATA-rated molded flight case (among other minor things). A Geddy just isn't worth $1000, IMHO.

I own a Aerodyne jazz as well as an American Standard. The Aerodyne is incredibly light,plays pretty smooth, and looks killer, the total package!
The American Standard is heavier, plays just as good, and looks like everyone elses jazz. Never played a Geddy though...

I have an Aerodyne Jazz, USA '06 Standard Jazz and USA '77 Precision. The Aerodyne is my favorite for live (totally flexible tone, great playability, ultra light on the shoulder, stunning looks). I use my USA J and P for recording - they are the classics and it is noticible on recordings.

I did add a noiseless Fender bridge J PU to the Aerodyne. Quiet and growly. Perfect for me!

I'd go Geddy. I'm using mine way more than my MIA Jazz - just like the brightness from the 70's location of the bridge p-up.

I've never tried an aerodyne - nice lookin' though . . .
