I've lived through the era of tape, through CD, and I find my self in the realm of Mp3. But musical media is constantly progressing, what do you think will come next, are they just gonna beam it into our skulls or something?

It'll be some form of compressed format with little to no degradation from the original wav format but I'll also say with media storage getting larger and cheaper by the day, files may just remain in the native formats since the storage can handle it.
Something that also exists already is Structured Audio Coding (SAC). This is a method of digitally modelling an audio input in its entirety and then accurately reconstructing it in the playback device. Because only the mathematical model needs to be transferred a standard CD could hold up to 600 hrs of SAC-coded music.
I don't like music without physical support. MP3 is easy to use and I listen to MP3 every day, but when I buy an album, I like having a booklet, etc.

Well I hope it goes the way as DVD's did in red dwarf. "Ah, that's a DVD sir, they were used before videos, everyone realised that they were far too small and easy to lose whereas videos are so big it's impossible to lose them."
Searchable streamed music databases. It's already happening with a software called Spotify. No downloading the song, just type in the band/song/album you want, click on the song/album on the results and it starts to play instantly. It's a jukebox of kazillion songs. The company generates revenues with ads, or alternatively if you don't want any ads, you can pay 10 bucks / month, and that's how the record companies get their money.
Certain artists will be implanted with super compact recording devices and every sound that comes out of these beings will be recorded, ran through a voice synthesizer, and then packaged with a lot of hype and corporate sponsorship. Marketing and distribution would be down to the point that as soon as Kanye West farts, it's waking you up on your alarm clock by the next morning.

One of them has an idea which he is almost certain of. He believes that Flash Drives and USB Sticks will be the way of the future. Those thumb drives are getting big enough to hold 16gb and more.. more than an iPod touch.
They are incredibly cheap as well, so I can see instead of cds people will start putting things on flash drives for distribution. You can also build usb into cars fairly easily, making cds almost useless. The quality would be just as good as anything else as well because of the carrying capacity.

I have seen bands handing out stick drives of music (sometimes the show they just played) at the end of shows and such.
Yeah, I just bought Jack Conte's music on USB. $20 for at least 30 songs, plus a couple videos and some pics. He calls it a Dongle.

Vinyl for physical copies and something lossless for the digital files. Whatever it is, it has to be lossless.

I just listened to a vinyl of Led Zep and then Yes for the first time in 15 years, technics turntable, really old fisher amp, bose 901 speakers....it blew my mind. I wasn't expecting it, but it made my hair stand on end.
Yes, it's not transport worthy nor convenient for taking music on the airplane, but it made putting on a pair of wired earplugs and an iPod somewhat as exciting as eating steak with a stuffed nose.
My house is getting some new "old" toys.
