Careful, it gets expensive fast. You can easily spend more on home audio than on bass related stuff.

i'd say something that size is losemore not lossless.. and according to the article its only theoreticly possible at this point, not even in development so i wouldnt exactly say coming soon.
i'm more looking forward to the advances in lcd making lcd newspapers/magazines and microsized television sets, although ipod did a damn good job of the latter
I'm already there brother! My car stereo has a USB input and I have a 4gb stick with about 50 cd's worth of music on it. Music for months..........literally!
Hmmmm....in all actuality a friend of mine told me years ago that he was able to get a private tour of a computer company working on just such a technology. Some sort of "chip/processor" that used water in some sort of manner. That the final product was years into the future...that was 8 years ago when he told me about it.
how would it be of lower quality? with 2 teras of space, you could have your entire library in a .flac format.
and the new exFAT SD cards are due out this year, according to Popular Science. The minimum storage produced with these cards is 64 gigs. There really isn't anything that will stand up to these things once they hit the markets.
and forgive my ignorance, but short of freezing it and inscribing things into it, how the heck do you use water as a storage device?

As far as I'm concerned, that all ended with 12" LPs. The album covers, cover art, often with included booklets, etc., were sublime in and of themselves.
No one's ever been able to come close to that since LPs went the way of the Dodo.
I was just a kid...but IIRC when my older brother got Dark Side of the Moon it had a bunch of stickers and posters and such. Anyone? Anyone?

I'll Buy a ****load of good old cd's and burn the music on them. Just to not lose it. I don't think i am ready for USB taking on CD. USB are so littles that i'll surely lose them.

This is just general speculation, but based on current trends I believe synthetic stars will be with us in the not-so-far future. That is, computer-engendered, realistic, virtual "artists", existing only as protected software. "Their" personalities, looks and careers will be planned, launched, updated and extended indefinitely, which is ideal for the industry of popular music. In conjunction, I can imagine that it will be possible to do satellite-relayed holographic 3D projections of "live" shows simultaneously all over the world. Physical touring will go the way of the oxcart.
For people like us, yes.
However, as has been brought up before, it seems the population at large will walk on their stomachs to get the latest cheapest, smallest and most portable files, so they can cram as many as possible on their players, with little or no regard to playback quality. This does concern me.
We need a downloadable, mass-market 5.1 audio format that isn't DVD-Audio. Lots of people have home theatre systems now with 5.1 capabilities, and nothing other than movies to use them with. Surely it's time to move beyond stereo?
Maybe for the general listening public. I could care less. For me, if it has to be mp3, it'll be high quality files. As storage gets larger and cheaper, my files will be closer to their native format. A 4gb USB drive can still hold at least 4 cd's in wav format (which my car stereo CAN play).
Precisely. Dell's smallest hard drive available for desktops is 320 GBs, and you don't have to go up much to find 2 TB drives and over! There should be no excuse for the heavy compression that is being committed to music and videos these days.
