2 quick questions, I know this amped has been discussed a lot!

I'm looking for a portable head for my db112's...

1. Would it be fair to say that the AG500 falls between the Thunderfunk and ABM500...I tend to find the Thunderfunk a bit too quick, tight and clean, and the ABM500 just too bloomy and warm, so maybe the AG500 would be a nice comprisme....what do you think!

2. Can the Ag500 switch voltage between 110/230...it doesn't say in the online manual and Aguilar has not answered my e-mails regarding this...hmm:.

The AG can be switched to 230V by switching 2 or 3 wires on the inside. No soldering is required and it is very easily done. Someone at Aguilar sent my the instructions. Drop me am mail so I can sent you the PDF.

I got the AG500SC to replace my ABM. It is quicker indeed than the Ashdown (and lighter :)!)

I own a tfb550 and have auditioned an ag500sc. I own gs112 speakers and think, set flat, both amps sound similar. kinda hifi, but punchy and articulate. the 'funk has more tonal flexibility. so, it depends if you like tweaking your sound or like you like tone controls simple=aguilar...

I've owned both but not at the same time. The AG500 is very quick and clean, to me it sounds more natural than the T-funk ... almost as pure as a Neve channel with a ton of power behind it. The T-funk is like a more solid-state sounding Eden ... a bit more of a built in "shape" to the sound. IMO. Everyone hears things differently though.

But I would not say that it is more tubey or squishy than the Funk, at least not the clean channel. The dirty channel can get a very warm sound.

Well...since a few other amps have come into this conversation, and this one is in the same catagory...doesn't the GK 700rbII meet a lot of these descriptions? And for a lot less money. 19.5 lbs, 480 watt @ 4 ohms. How does it differ from the AG500. I, as well as a lot of other TalkBassers have found that inspite of it's sterile reputation(very inacurate), the 700rbII can be easily e.q. to many styles and tones.
