Aggie in Fender opinions.

Some months ago received a Fender Big Block P bass, as you all may know it holds a 18v preamp (bass/treble boost-cut) and about 3 weeks ago it started developing issues, anyway was planning to get rid of it because of the crappy circuit which has nothing to do with the excellent construction of the bass.
A friend of mine strongly recommended looking into the Aguilar OBP-2 and I was like "Aggie, synonym of quality...but how well it may perform?"
Has anyone tried this preamp on a fender bass before? Opinions, criticism, feedback, praise, "hate it"...all will be gratefully received.

I have Aguilar pre's in 2 basses. A OBP-1 in a mongrel P bass that sounds great. I dropped a OBP-2 in a MIM jazz and it's now one of my favorites. Both have stock pickups, but the Aggie pre's made them both come to life.

I also have a Big Block I like the preamp but it is a beast I've heard Fender basses with Aggie preamps and they sound fantastic it all depends on what type of sound you are after the Big Block has a very aggressive sound to my ears. I personally will get a preamp if I were to ever change the electronics congrats on having one of the most unique and under appreciated Fender basses I love mine.

Yeah dude, it's a sweet bass, i'm planning on heavily customize it when the preamp arrives with bass/treble separated pots, a custom design pickguard, neck binding, etc.

That sounds really cool I might get a custom pickup made and you could probably do stacked pots to save drilling new holes.

I want to split the pots (so it would be volume-bass-treble) and drill a cavity instead of individual holes in front of the bass in order to have them aligned in a curve over the future pickguard like a regular P bass instead of actual linear alignment.
