Aguilar AG 4M very low output. Wiring issues?

Hello everyone!

I recently picked up a new to me NR Guitar (Sonic Disruptor Bass). Local builder who is getting out of it and blowing out his inventory (I got a VERY good deal). It's got an Aguilar AG4M which sounds INCREDIBLE, but it's very low output. On the FM3 I had to add +10 to the level of my patches for them to balance out with my G&L. Going into my usual dirt boxes even with the gain cranked there is no dirt.

I tried it through my SB115 as well and had to double the volume to get it to the same level as my G&L. I understand the LB-100 has a hot pickup, but I've never experienced anything like this. I even compared my old beater Washburn Taurus (stock p pickup) and it has significantly more output as well.

So three questions if you don't all mind :)

1. Is the AG4M intended to be run with an active preamp? I did a bit of research and it seems this is a drop in for specific active MM basses. It's currently setup passive.

2. The PUP is about 10MM from the strings is that too far for this model? He said he didn't have an issue with output so maybe he had a higher wattage amp and just cranked it up more.

3. I posted a picture of the wiring, can someone please look it over for me? I've never seen anyone ground to shielding before, but I guess it would be fine assuming it's part of the grounding path.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

It was pickup height. Should have tried that first. Cranked it up about 50% higher and the output is there now. Didn't think I would have that kind of adjustability but it goes pretty deep into the body.

Sorry to waste everyone's' time :)
