Aguilar DB212 Question

Hey all.

I play through a Traynor YBA-200-2. It's 200 watts into 8 or 4 ohms and I've been thinking about getting an Aguilar DB212.

My plan was to grab an 8ohm version of the cab so down the road I can grab a second if I need to and retain a 4 ohm load.

However, I've found a 4 ohm version at a real steal of a price and I pretty much can't resist it.

So, anybody with this configuration or similar or other relevant experience think a single DB212 can handle a moderately-loud-to-loud-but-not-holy-snit-that's-effing-loud kind of band?

I recantly made the swich to a 2x12 cab (Genz Benz 212T) and have found its too much. I was using a Aguilar DB 2x10 cab before this and I think I may go back to a 2x10 cab.

I have used the 2x12 cab in two bar gigs and an outdoor gig and everytime its just too load. I have a Markbass LM II amp and the master hasen't gone past 2.

I have almost the exact set up you describe: a db212 (4 ohm) with a 200 Watt Orange AD200. The sound is ridiculously awesome, but I must admit a bit more boomy with 12's in stead of 10's.

The good thing about 12's, especially with the Aguilar gear, is that you get a lot of mid punch, but still retain good lows. I keep the tweeter off all the time. As far as loudness, it's got plenty. Do I wish I had the 8 ohm version? Yes, but only for versatility reasons. I've succumbed to the fact that this is the biggest size of cab I want to gig with.

For me, it basically boils down to whether or not you crave the sound of a tight, 4x10 set up, or like something a bit more boomy. I play in a loud rock band and get by great with the db212 on its own.

I read alot on TB about the DB series having a noticeable "bump" in the mid range. Can anyone identify the center frequency of this midrange?

I realize that "tone" is a personal preference, and that room size, environment, and volume have a significant impact on sound.

Can anyone provide frequency characteristics for this midrange? (I'm interested in comparison with Aguilar GS212.)
