Aguilar db750 question

So, here is the thing. The amp sounds amazing, but when I dynamically get louder, it sounds distorted, really brown sounding... It has happened with all of my basses. For example I'll give you the settings I used last night with my Gibson Triumph bass...

Passive mode, treble at 1 oclock, treble switch on, mids at 11 o clock, bass at 1 oclock with the deep switch off. Gain at about 9 oclock, master at about 1 oclock.

This is powering a Bergantino nv412 (both the head and cab are brand new). I am just a little shocked that that could be over powering the speaker... I thought the nv412 was wattage matched with the head, and all my ohms are correct. I just don't get it... can anyone help?

I can't be of much help here, since I've never had my DB750's master volume above noon, but 1 o'clock is SCARY on these amps!

I will say this, though.. The DB750 is capable of ridiculous transient output when you dig in. It has a very large power reserve, so it's possible that the speakers might be reacting to being pushed too hard. Then again, I've never met a Bergantino cab that complained much under power.

I'd go with Jimmy's advice and make sure your tubes are good. V1 might be bad.

My DB750 has lower gain NOS RCA's in the preamp which definitely bring down the gain. That said, running a flat EQ with the gain at 11-12 o'clock, I rarely have my master anywhere about 9-10 o'clock. If it hits 10 o'clock it gets ridiculously loud through a pair of 15's.

I just got my DB750 but also have two other Aguilar rigs that I'm more familiar with. It really does sound like there could be some problem but like some others have said try the following. On both the DB750 and DB659 I put the gain at noon for a clean not so compressed sound but ussually leave it at 1ish for a nice tubey compressed sound that fits really well in the mix. That is with my active Pedulla Thunderbass. Unless you have a really hot bass, 9 on the gain is pretty low. Maybe try 11 or 12 oclock and see what you think but make sure to drop the master to 8 or 9 so you don't blow the roof off your house, lol. My master on either rig does not go above 10ish with my gain at 1ish and that is pretty darn loud through a Berg AE410.
