Aguilar Octamizer DLX (Deluxe)

I love my V1 Octamizer. The DLX looks and sounds pretty nice, but if I may nitpick, it would have been nice to have a separate filter knob for each octave down mode. It seems they’re trying to market the octave voice switching feature as a convenience to use live without needing to twiddle with knobs, but I’d likely also use different filter settings for each mode. Still looks awesome though.

I usually hate digital octave-up sounds, but with the filter all the way down I could see use for that too. I'll have to try one in person to know for sure how it would work for me- its usually the feel that really kills digital octaves for me compared to the immediacy of the OC-2, MXR VBO or the original Octamizer. I own and use most of the digital bass synth pedals, but still use my OC-2 or VBO more than any of them because of that immediacy of the analog octave divider approach and nothing digital has matched that feel yet for me.

One of my fisrt experiences with octavers were the Line6 HX Legacy Bass octaver, it is very thick, very good. Then I got th SA C4 and it gets better, tighter. Then I got the OC2... Valhalla

I ended up picking up the Octamizer DLX from Sweetwater last night. I already own the standard Octamizer, the MXR Vintage Bass Octave, MXR Sub Octave Bass Fuzz, MXR Bass Synth, DOD Meatbox, recently took delivery of the 3Leaf Audio Octabvre 3.33, an HX Stomp, and an HX Stomp XL, so why did I purchase it? I guess it was just the curiosity to see how it stacks up against the rest. I haven't had a ton of time with it but I think if I didn't own all of the options I do, it would be a no brainer. It's not the smallest footprint but it's fairly compact for all it does. I'm sold on the tracking, the octave down, the ability to change to an OC-2-esque sound, the switching, but I'm not sure how I feel about the octave up so far. It could come in handy when stacking some some other pedals and perhaps as a little party trick, but I wouldn't buy this pedal just for the addition of an octave up, there are better pedals for that purpose, but having it all in one package is pretty sweet! I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but this pedal requires 500mA, not a big deal if you've got a Strymon or Cioks, but simply something to keep in mind.

I too just ordered this from sweetwater! I'm building a new board and was planning on running both a darkglass kaamos for a light poly octave sound running parallel to my drive signals, and also the 3leaf 3.33 for the more OC2 vibe. If I can get close to those features through the aguilar than it frees up some pedalboard real estate. I decided it's better to try pedals before assembling the board rather than regret later on

I don’t think the Octamizer DLX has a poly option unless I’m missing something?

How’s the latency and what, exactly, do you not like about the octave up? Are you more of a POG fan or those distorted analog octave up sounds?

The pedal sounds good. Tracks great, I don’t notice latency. I’ve been messing around with putting some reverb, tremolo, fuzz on the up octave and it’s been fun. It’s just not the most inspiring sound. Fun to have but not something essential for me.
