Aguilar problem

I have been struggling with an Aguilar OBP3 active set up for the past few weeks. I have tripple checked the wiring and everything seems in order. The only thing their schematic does not show is what to do with the ground/shield wire. I have grounded it to the shielding which is grounded to the main part of the output shaft.

My problem is that everything works fine in passive mode but as soon as I put the batteries in (or jumper accross as if batteries are installed but without power) the thing goes stone dead. Nothing. Nada.

Any thoughts?

A nice big pic would help a lot.

On their diagram they are clearly showing that the ground is connected to the sleeve and the negative from the batteries (Black) is connected to the ring part of the jack (therefore when you plug your mono instrument jack in to it a connection is made).

As a pre-emptive note, I used offcut wire for the things that were not part of the Aguilar system so I apologise if some of the colors make this confusing.

It is a stereo plug with a mono jack so that the batteries are automatically disconnected by pulling out the jack. Neat trick. I have bonded the shield, bridge and pickup braded shielding to the ground. The bundle of wires in the lower right with the shrink wrap on it is the bunch of wires on the Aguilar schematic that are connected to the "bottom" of the plug that connects to the point on the jack.

The white stuff around the pre amp is hot melt glue to hold it in place.

From what I can see (and it is hard to see detail) looks like you connected hot signal from your On/Off switch (light purple wire) to ground and black wire from the battery is connected to the tip. You should connect black wire to the sleeve part and that light purple wire to the tip. I could be wrong, but that is what it looks like from this angle.

Got it!

I was reading the schematic backwards for the jack wireing. I thought the doughnut looking piece was where the jack tip went. I didn't realize that represented the opening that you insert the jack plug into.

I have to say, this Aguilar system pumps out the sound once you get it wired right.

Huh? Isn't it usually a stereo jack and a mono cable/plug?

Yes, I got the terms mixed up. I am a wood worker and not an electonics expert.
