Aguilar TH 700 speaker connections

Hey y'all - newb question here. I have a TH 500 v1 amp and 2 Aguilar SL cabs (2x12 and 1x15). The amp has 2 Speakon jacks on the back, so no problem hooking up the cabs.

Now I'm thinking about upgrading to a TH 700 v2 amp. I notice that the v2 amps only have one Speakon jack. How do I connect 2 cabs (or even 3 if I wanted to, since it can run at 2.67ohm) to one jack? Wouldn't I need some kind of Speakon signal splitter to do this?

This is probably dealt with in the manual, which I haven't taken the time to look through yet. So don't cut me up too bad with the sarcasm, ha ha! TIA!

No, it will be parallel!

The TH500 and TH700v2 amps only support 2.67ohms. If both your cabinets are 4ohms each, together they will be a 2ohms Impedance total.


"Any combination of speaker cabinets may be used as long as the total load does not go below 2.67 ohms. The Speakon jacks are wired +1, -1. "

To make a connection in series a cable specialty wired internally in series is needed, all others will be parallel.

Although the cabs are linked in a series, the electrical connections are parallel.

Short version - as long as one of the cabs (I'm assuming SL115)? is the 8 ohm version - which given the fact that you currently are using them together with "no problem", you can just "piggy-back" the cabinets / connect a speaker cable* from one cabinet to the other.

Just curious though - which version of each cabinet do you own?? (8 ohm / 8ohm? 8 ohm / 4 ohm)?

Older SL cabs only have 1) Speakon connection and 2) 1/4" connections (also all parallel).
If that is the case, you will have to use a 1/4" to 1/4" or 1/4" to speakon speaker cable to make the "piggyback" connection (= pain in the )

on a side note; contacting Aguilar to update my panels to the new version (with dual speakon connections) proved to be an exercise in futility....

According to J-Bass RMR's comment "Newer SL Cabs have dual (parallel) Speakon connections", it must be so you'll get annoyed with the old connections and buy new.

I bought the 212 about 6 years ago and assumed it was 8Ω because I was unaware that different impedances were available. I bought the 115 about 3 years ago, and by then I knew I wanted an 8Ω cab to use in parallel with the (8Ω, so I thought) 212. But I never went back and checked the impedance of the 212.

Can the SL212 cab be easily rewired to be 8Ω or no? Would that require a change in speakers, speaker configuration, whatever? How about 8Ω/4Ω switchable? Now there's a concept...

I just looked at Aguilar's website - looks like currently the SL212 is only available as a 4Ω. Don't know if that was true when my 212 cab was new.

Obviously I need to find some knowledgeable consulting before doing anything else on this!

No, the 212 internal wiring is either 4 ohms or 16 ohms. 16 ohms is not an appropriate choice.

your configuration is ideal;
connecting the 2 cabs in parallel, electronically you now have 3) 8ohm drivers - a 2.67 ohm load - each driver gets equal power. Good job!
(the amp doesn't "see" cabinets - just the speaker load)

The SL212 was originally available in either 4 or 8 ohm.
