Aguilar TLC acting strangely (malfunctioning?)

With no pedals, just bass and amp, can you play a note that makes your amp distort? I mean not constant distortion on all notes, but a spike of distortion on your biggest peaks?

I should be able to do that. I have a Tone Hammer 350 which has an adjustable drive knob on it.
