Aguilar V2 amps

I was told the basic circuit is the same, but the only LGS that had Aguilar on the floor for demos closed down.

It has a lot of fluff that I don't need as I don't use my amp heads for home practice. Only at the gigs. And I would never send a DI signal that is pre to the FOH. The sound guys here are inexperienced at handling the low frequencies. They often sit in the worse corner at the venue where the bass trap is the highest.

Some times I think the new digital mixers with remote control with tablets is a bane to my bass playing existence. I would think wireless tablets would enable the sound guys to go around the venue to mix for better sound, not hide in a corner. Instead, I'm the one that does it.

I like the old version at the old price better.

I agree. The new version feels a bit gimmicky and the price reflects that.

Agreed. I just ordered a new AG700 V1.
I can't justify the price increase on the V2 and I'd never need 2 D.I.s or cab sim.

I played the new version of my Tone Hammer 700 at Sweetwater recently. They sound identical, at least to me. The so called upgrades will only appeal to certain players with specific needs. To me not worth the extra $$.
It's the market driving this stuff, as usual. They all feel like they have to keep up with the Jones' instead of just continuing top do what they do best.

Yes, I saw in a video that the front ends are the same so I'm sure they sound the same but the extra features give me pause. Do the majority of buyers seek 2 D.I.s and cab sim? I mean I wouldn't mind but not at that price increase.

So I'm definitely the target market for this type of amp, and also coincidentally a young(er) bass player. At this point, I won't use gear that doesn't have a cabinet simulation unless I know for a fact that the cabinet will have a microphone in front of it. To have it built into the amp just eliminates another piece of gear I would need to haul, power and connect, which I really appreciate NOT needing to do.

I sometimes use a decent amount of drive and doing so without a cabinet in the chain just doesn't sound right to me. The second, pre-DI would allow me to record both the raw bass and a ballpark bass tone for the song to be recorded at the same time. Super helpful for live recordings because then I don't need to make a decision in the moment, I can craft a live tone that works for me and still have a clean signal to manipulate later in post. Headphone and aux in is just plain convenient. Also, it might be a niche use, but having a headphone out on the amp allows you to have a "more me" monitor at all times with just a pair of headphones.

I've had an AG700 V1 for a few years as my main amp and recently got a TH500 v2. I actually really like having the cab sim di out! It came in handy a few times. Once when the sound guy was kinda clueless so I just sent him the tone ready. Another one was playing with IEM. It sounds and feels so much better in the ear with the IR/cab sim and the FOH can still take a line out "pre" everything else for total control upfront.

Interesting. And how would you compare output between the TH500 and AG700? I had a V1 TH500 but have used an AG700 in backline and it seemed much more powerful than my TH500.

For the live player, no. For one who records a-lot.... maybe. But there are cheaper ways to achieve that I think.

I can now see why they did what they did. Similar to how my amp has a digital out XLR and a line out XLR that can be selected pre/post preamp

I'm also a GenX player, but conversely I like the idea of a DI with cab sim. I've been using a Darkglass M500v2 for about 2 years, and really like that feature because we typically rehearse with IEMs, and try to maintain that same sound for FOH. Cab sims give me some consistency. However, live I also like to use my actual cabs on stage.

When I bought this amp, I was evaluating it versus the then current Tone Hammer and went with the Darkglass because of these capabilities and have not been disappointed.

Anyway, I'm in this thread because I'm really interested in the new TH amps, *because* of these features, and was hoping the v2 would also maintain the original Tone Hammer sound. Seems like most agree that they do, so I'm glad to hear that and now just need to figure out the financial side of things.

Ahh, the only amp I am aware of that had an AES/EBU output! It's helpful if you include the model of "your amp" when describing unique features.

This is for an entirely different reason that on Jim's amp, the AES/EBU output is a digital signal is for direct connection to a digital input more commonly found on digital recorders, interfaces, and workstations.

i love my original AG500SC. no need whatsoever for the features on the new version. this one is rock solid. no BS, clean tone. everything i need and nothing i don't . this one stays with me until the end.
