Aguilar's Pedal Casing Remodel??

yeah, that's been the only complaint i've had about using the Aggy pedz. well, it'd be nice if the Twin Filter had a blend or clean signal volume and an overall volume. filters have too many peaks and issues with dropping the low end for the higher filtery stuff.... kinda hard to fit one in some times if it doesna have a blend or main volume.

but yeah. the lip thing makes a lot of right angle plugs a huge pain to use.

can't remember who i talked to..... but another TB'er that's done some mod work opened one up and didn't think it was worth it. but yeah, i'd have at least two of Aggie's pedals on board if they were around MXR sized. so awesome.

True....you could just try a cable with a smaller righ angle barrel, or a straight barrel. :)

the problem for me when i had the Aggy Octo was that if i was fitting it into a small spot on my board, i needed the pancake head style connectors. and those don't fit well at all. i can never use straight connectors, and even the longer right angles are too much sometimes.

also, on a PT board, the Aggy stuff only ever worked for me on the top row. love the sounds out of some of them, was too much of a hassle sitting them safely.

Had my Agro for about a week now, and already finding the case design cumbersome and awkward. I've had it spontaneously disconnect on me twice now, and found the cables weren't fully seated. This, while mounted on a PT mini, not bouncing around on the floor.

That the Agro will require me to experiment with different cable connectors to find ones that work well with its odd case design doesn't sit well. Straight cables are a non starter on a PT mini for my uses.

I bought an SFT at the same time, and while I like the Agro's sound over the Catalinbread, the SFT's form factor is making it the clear winner in my shootout. Agro soon to be for sale. In the future I won't be able to recommend any of Aguilar's pedals because their design choices make them inconvenient to use. Too bad.

EXACTLY where i was at. i love the sounds of the Octo more than any other octaver i've played through, but straight plugs don't work on ANY board really. i tried three different type of right angles and they all either didn't fit, had WAY too much tension on them, or popped out without warning.

love their gear, can't find a way to safely use them.

Why not continue the rehousing/etching scheme with one of these? :)

Meh, 2 Aggie pedals fit just fine! (If you have a giant pedalboard!) ;)

I love the Octamizer and Twin Filter so much! I go through a LOT of pedals & there are pretty much 2 'schools' in my experience: pedals that take a while to dial in & pedals that dial themselves in. For me, the Aguilar pedals have been the later! Very easy to get great, usable band-context tones out of.

That said, the recessed jacks do present a challenge for many board set-ups. I do like having all the jacks on side though + the sturdy pedal housing!

I'm struggling right now in my home studio trying to get a single-pedal overdrive that I love. Currently I'm using a Fulltone Bass-Drive Mosfet in the loop of an Xotic X Blender (works awesome for me) - but... I'm getting ready for over-seas dates & need to downsize. Xotic BB is ok, but just not 'killing it' for me. Need to try an Agro!

Let's face it, this would be way sexier with an Agro:

We started making these in 2009, and I'm willing to consider that we don't get everything exactly right; but I would like to point out that a lot of people are using these pedals on pedal boards without mounting or connection issues. Here is a picture I posted in 2009. The board is a pedaltrain -and the pedals are mounted on the bottom row.

These D'addario cables shown in the picture have a pretty big casing, and need to be turned inward or down. That's all it takes. A lot of other right angle cables will work without doing that. When laying out a pedal board it makes sense to use cables with mini heads. It will also save a lot of real estate on pedals that are mounted side by side.

On of the advantages of having the inputs/outputs on the top of the pedal is that you can put a lot of them in a very small space.
This is considerable when you add in the lack of an angled side which is found on a Hammond style box.

Is the odd Aguilar pedal chassis design due to their desire to be different, or stand out from the herd ?
I'd personally put day to day functionality over visual design concepts anyday.

Pedals are like Planets, you've gotta be in the goldilocks zone for any chance of life surviving long term.

for sure, and i'm not trashing your pedals at all. like i said, i'd change the Filter Twin a little but i loved the compressor and octaver y'all make.

the way you have them mounted up there is the only way could make them feel safe cable wise, which neccessitated putting them on the top row or where they where right over a gap on a PT board. and usually it works better for me having the front edge of a pedal near the front of a row if it's not on the top row. with the overhanging metal piece on the top, all the connectors i've tried either wouldn't fit with solid connections or didn't have enough give to work.

i LOVE top mounted jacks, but they work better the higher they are on the case (relative to the bottom of the pedal) to accomadate the most placement or cable options. lol. Lava's and George L's probably fit ok, but i'm not a huge fan of solderless cables. just my opinions.

but your pedals sound AMAZING, so you guys are definitely getting that part right!

word, I'd have an agro pedal and an octamizer but the cases were too much of a pain for my cables and they were unnecessarily long.

Edit: by long I mean the lower lip of the pedals needing an added layer in order to attach velcro....
