I owned an original and now gig a Series II. I also sell them.
The Series II has a few improvements; IMHO the new one is tighter-sounding, the original had a tendency to "break away" on the bottom-most notes, where the current model seems to be tighter down there as well as the midrange.
The head adds a switchable filter that can act as a high pass filter, to cut frequencies below a selectable point if you need to rid yourself of useless mud, or as a variable notch filter. They added an effects return control as well.
The whole thing is more robust, the original had a lot of plastic, the new one is carpet-covered and metal. And it's smaller, too.
