Akai Headrush E2 owners: help with issue

I did a search and did not find anything specifically related to the problem I'm having with my Akai Headrush E2.

If I play a sound and then tap to record it (in loop mode), the first recording sounds nice, but any subsequent overdubs (done in the same manner by recording after the sound has been initiated) begin with a "crackle", which I assume is coming from the switch. I've tried lightly tapping the switch, plugging into different electrical outlets, switching my amp's ground, and even massive lowering of my passive bass volume. Unfortunately, none of these attempts fixed the problem.

I'm in the process of contacting Akai (it is Sunday), but I was wondering if any other Akai users experienced this problem. If it is normal, I may pass the pedal along, though I really like it in all other ways.
