Double Bass AKG C411

Hey Everyone!,

First of all, let me say that I feel like I've joined talkbass and been asking tons of questions, I wish I had more bass playing friends!:bawl: Anyway, I've been looking around for condensers to use live, and I sumbled across this AKG C411. I've been searching talkbass and the internet for reviews and haven't had great luck. Anyone encounter one of these litte things on a DB? I've got a realist now and i'm looking for a nice mic to blend it with, mostly for high's. Anyways I don't have a lot of money to go with an AMT :spit: but this looks like a easy to deal with alternative to buying a mic-stand and a nice condenser that might feed back. Really I am curious about the sound that they produce. It looks to me like these mics were intended for guitar and fiddle, but they also look like they could get a good sound for DB.

Hi likeminds, I've been using one for a while now, and while I'm contented with mine, the sound is more pickup than mic-like. It's basically an alternative type of contact pickup, so it isn't picking up much from the air around it. I don't mean to put it down by that, because I like the sound for live work, but I wouldn't regard it as a substitute for a stand mounted mike. I hope this is helpful...
