Albums that you consider "perfect"...

There's a ton of albums that I love and would be horrible to lose and all, but there's like only three or four that are "perfect".
Dark Side of the Moon- Pink Floyd
This album is perfection, enough said.
Portrait in Jazz- Bill evans
A great album, amazing bass work, plus Evans plays the piano so beautifully, just a great album and a jazz staple IMO.
Illmatic- Nas
A classic, the quintessential hip-hop album, the beats are ridiculously good, amazing lyrical content, etc.
oh yeah I totally forget about the album Electric Guitarist by John McLaughlin. God that album is awesome, and some of the best bass work on any album of that time. Jack Bruce has a great solo on "Are You the One? Are You The One?", and Stanley Clark's walking line on "Do You Hear The Voices You Left Behind?" is one of the best ever IMO. I mean the first time I heard it I was speechless... such musicality...

i don't know if those albums are perfect, but after years of listening, I still enjoy listening to them from the start to the end and I never skip a song:
- pearl jam: vitalogy and no code
- pulp: different class
- soundgarden: supeunknown
- r.e.m.: monster
- deftones: around the fur
- radiohead: the bends
- weezer: s/t (blue album)

... I know its not One album, but its a great compilation of his songs, and if you would see these songs in that order live, you could die on the spot and probably would from too much dancing and from all these great musicians, perfect mix of reggae, soul, dub, rock and what a F-in energy

Everything beyond that would be listing favorite albums, so listing two or more of one band and pretending they are perfect...:confused: :hmm: :o :hiding: cause I could have listed other Led Zep but they are just not like II, or Electric ladyland, which has great experimentation, but to many interludes, or Michaels bad, but its just not thriller... and of course all of Bobs Island/Tuff gong albums and the White album, but.......-..

Although I don't always listen to some of these anymore due to overplay, in my opinion, they represent some of the most complete albums:

"Dark Side of the Moon" - Pink Floyd
"The Wall" - Pink Floyd
"Abbey Road" - The Beatles
"Sgt Pepper" - The Beatles
"The Doors" - The Doors
"Led Zepplin 4" - Led Zepplin
"Van Halen" - Van Halen
"Thriller" - Michael Jackson
"The Joshua Tree" - U2
"Nevermind" - Nirvana
"Woodface" - Crowded House (yep, very underrated and this one is probably personal)
"OK Computer" - Radiohead

Yeah, allot of the usual suspects are there. For me, there are probably 50 ALMOSTS, I.E. 85-90% perfection: Duran Duran, Tears For Fears, Jimi, Radiohead, Metallica, Bob Marley The Police, Green Day, Coldplay, RHCP, Rush, Pearl Jam, John Mayer...on and on and on......

A perfect album, to me, is one that flows flawlessly from beginning to end, with everything in its right place. So if an album has some filler tracks (like Tool and Type O Negative like to do), if it helps establish and advance the vibe and emotion of the music, nothing wrong with it IMO.

I realize I won't be plowing any new ground here but I've had a couple'a pops and I feel like contributing.

Adhering to my interpretation of the OP's criteria, I won't list albums I merely think are great. I'll list only albums I never get tired of listening to in their entirety.

That means I'm excluding albums I acknowledge as masterpieces like Kind of Blue, Exile on Main Street, Innervisions, Mingus at Antibes, Band of Gypsys, At Fillmore East, Gris-Gris, The Shape of Jazz to Come, The Sounds of India, Shakti, Birds of Fire, Jazz Party, Machine Head, Dark Side of the Moon, The Booker T. Set, King and Queen, The Sound in Your Mind, The Harder They Come, Burnin', Catch a Fire, Waiting for Columbus, Time Out, Miles Smiles, Coltrane, Abbey Road, Zep II, Marquee Moon, Los Angeles, Fear -The Record, Are We Not Men? and on in to infinity. (Damn. Sorry for the long list. It could've been longer. Thank you if you've read this far. Kudos if you can name all the artists that correspond with those albums.)

The albums I consider "perfect" and never grow tired of listening to in their entirety are as follows:

Hendrix - Axis: Bold as Love
Albert Collins - Frozen Alive
Tower of Power - Tower of Power (from '73 with Lenny Williams singing)
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um
Lefty Frizzell - Sad Side of Love
Merle Haggard - Back to the Barrooms
John Coltrane - Ballads
Oscar Peterson - The Sound of the Trio

I'm sure I forgot something but I'm satisfied with that list. Thanks for indulging me.

1995 Screaming Headless Torsos by Screaming Headless Torsos (Duh).

Heavy Weather and Black Market by Weather Report.

Highway Rider by Brad Mehldau.

Natural Fractals by Rare Folk.

Those are the ones i can think of right now, but I'm sure there's many many more.

Also like many have said, blood sugar sex magic has a special place because i pretty much started playing bass guitar after hearing that album.

the beach boys - pet sounds
the beatles - rubber soul and revolver
the cure - disintegration
weezer - the blue album
stavesacre - absolutes
smashing pumpkins - siamese dream
