I really don't think Dark Side Of The Moon can be beat.
There are so many good albums from so many good gernes though.
After Dark Side I would say Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane and Neil Young's Harvest.

Oh and also John Wesley Harding - Bob Dylan
Most other Bob Dylan from the 60s, with a couple of songs in exception so I guess that makes them not perfect.
The Bands Music From Big Pink.
Quite hard to say though really.

Converge - Jane Doe From the barely one minute opening track to the 11 minute sludge metal closer this record is flawless, the production is clean but raw, the bass and guitar tone is perfect, every song flows into the next. It's cohesive and emotional.

The Melvins - Houdini Their best record. Heavy, sludgy, ridiculous.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality It has Sweet Leaf, Lord of this World, and Into the Void on it... it's flawless.

For state of the art bass playing in the early 80s, I vote for Donald Fagen's The Nightfly.
Great tunes, great band, great drummers and you get to see how Marcus Miller, Abe Laboriel, Chuck Rainey and Will Lee play Pop/Rock stuff. Inspiring!

Kurt Ballou is by far my favorite producer for this reason alone. And I agree it's a great album

Small Change by Tom Waits. Tremendously good songwriting and concept, perfect sparse arrangements, and Tom's voice is a religious experience. The hooky double bass lick on "Step Right Up" was one of the tunes that got me wanting to play upright.....

Bitches Brew is right there too.

Eddie Harris and Les McCann - Swiss Movement

Stanton Moore's - All Kooked Out is pretty phenomenal. Recorded is one day is New Orleans the day after Mardi Gras.

The Jazz Crusaders - lighthouse '68 is a keeper.

Tower of Power - live from Scremento I a favorite.

Robert Walter's - Super Heavy Organ is pretty rad too.

Sorry to the rock guys, I like it but not my bag.
