maybe been mentioned earlier, but my bloody valentine - loveless is my #1 pick. each song is it's own emotional state, and taken as a whole it's just hypnotizing. i hear new things every time i listen to it.

Miles Davis:
Kind of Blue and Birth of the Cool (except "Darn That Dream". Sorry, but it sounded like an afterthought).
Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers with Thelonious Monk. Period.
Dave Brubeck: Take Five.
All of the Riverside Bill Evans Trio recordings (i.e Sunday, Waltz, and Exporations).
ANY ATDI.
Nothing by The Mars Volta or Sparta(Sorry, but IMO).
The entire Meters/The Funky Meters discography.
Surprisingly enough, almost anything by The Queens of The Stone Age.
Any Uncle Tupelo.
Nothing by Son Volt or Wilco; again, my apologies.
Anything ever recorded by Bill Monroe.
Steve Earle and The Del McCoury Band; The Mountain. Listen to "Harlan Man", and see if you don't feel it.

The BEST EVER album in my little mind (and this almost ties with Steve Earle and Del):

Refused; The Shape of Punk To Come. Rattled (and still rattles) my mind.
The (international) Noise Conspiracy can suck it, however.
Is it weird to anyone else how much great music, in any genre, seems to be predicated on interpersonal conflict? (see Janes, tupelo, ATDI, Refused, etc. . .)

Iron Maiden - Powerslave (IMHO, Best Bass Tone Ever.)
Metallica - Kill 'Em All (not a fan of the band, especially now, but their most addictive album, beginning to end, and IMO, their most important.)
Kreator - Terrible Certainty (Storming with Menace! bass audible, but barely so.)
Kreator - Hordes of Chaos (An ultra rare modern perfect recording.)

Might be missing some favorites, just out of the top of my head.

I have a huge list of almost perfect albums, and another huge amount of virtually perfect recordings without electric bass (from the classical music repertoire -true metal and classical music are not mutually exclusive, you know? I laugh at elitism in music and elsewhere.)

All albums that are absolutely amazing from cover to cover. And if you havent heard any of these bands, rip them off on limewire or torrent them, then if you like them, buy the album!

There is no perfect album, otherwise I'd only ever listen to 1 album. =P But I don't generally listen to albums unless every song is great. If one song messes it up for me, that's it. Out the window it goes. =P

A very good bass album and a great collection of songs & performances all around. I wouldn't change a thing. I've been hooked since it came out when I was a pre-teen. Now that I've been a recording and performing musician for >20 years, my opinion is constantly reinforced. Maybe Nick Lowe's best production.
